Hot 100: Dua Lipa Lands 9th Top 40 Hit with ‘Barbie’ Soundtrack Single ‘Dance the Night’

Published: Saturday 17th Jun 2023 by Rashad

As Dua Lipa fans impatiently wait for updates on her highly anticipated third studio album, the follow-up to 2020’s blockbuster ‘Future Nostalgia,’ the Pop diva has been sparsely whetting appetites by appearing as a feature on a number of high-profile releases since the era’s close (i.e. Megan Thee Stallion, Elton John, Pop Smoke, Miley Cyrus, etc.).

The first taste of solo Lipa music since 2021’s ‘Love Again‘ came courtesy of the May 25-released ‘Dance the Night,’ which also serves as the lead single from the forthcoming ‘Barbie‘ film (of which the GRAMMY winner also stars).

Sending her diehard supporters into a frenzy upon its arrival, the tune made a commendable debut right outside of the Hot 100’s top 40 as it entered as last week’s second-highest premiere among new songs by women (following Taylor Swift‘s ‘Hits Different’).

This week, thanks to rising on every format (streaming, digital downloads, and radio airplay), the Andrew Wyatt and Mark Ronson-produced bop has cracked the top 40.

Peruse of the refreshed Hot 100 sees Lipa printed at #35 with ‘Dance the Night.’  Here are the numbers that powered the placement.

  • Streaming ≈ 8.5 million U.S.-based streams
  • Digital Downloads ≈ 3,200 sold
  • Radio Airplay ≈ 25.8 million audience impressions

With the elevation into the chart territory, the ‘Levitating’ singer nabs the 9th Hot 100 top 40 hit of her career and first solo appearance in the region since ‘We’re Good‘ accomplished the feat in April 2021.

Hunnie, this s h I t will never get old. Future Nostalgia is a timeless masterpiece. We need more!!! 💅🏾 what music direction you like her to go next? I think her sultry voice suits for R&B but it won’t sell

i think she can keep some disco elements but go in a darker more club-like sound, techno or electro would be sick. just heavier, harder beats. she can easily kill R&B lol she’s got the sexiness and sultry voice like you said. but doing a complete 180 flip in direction wouldn’t work well for her pop fans, look at Doja right now.
